Terms of Service
Last updated: August 3, 2026— this is a first draft, not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
Agreement to these terms
By creating an account on The Lab, you agree to these terms. If you're under the age of majority in your province, a parent or guardian should review these terms with you.
What The Lab is
The Lab is a tutoring platform for secondary school students: one-on-one and group tutoring sessions, practice quizzes (QuizLab), and an AI-powered study helper (Lab Assistant AI Tutor).
Your account
You're responsible for keeping your password secure and for activity on your account. Give us accurate information when you sign up, including your actual grade - it's how we match you with the right tutoring and quiz content.
Payment and cancellation
QuizLab access is billed as a subscription; individual and group tutoring sessions are billed per session once confirmed. Cancelling a session more than 24 hours before it starts waives the charge; cancelling later may not. You can cancel a subscription or update your payment method any time in Settings.
The Lab Assistant AI Tutor
The Lab Assistant is an AI system, not a person, and it can make mistakes. It's built to guide you through a problem rather than give you final answers - if you try to get around that, it'll say so. Don't submit its output as your own work without checking it, and don't rely on it in place of your actual tutor for anything that matters.
Acceptable use
Be respectful to tutors, staff, and other students. Don't share your account, don't use the platform to harass or harm anyone, and don't try to circumvent the safety features built into the tutoring chat or the Lab Assistant. We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate this.
Content you submit
Homework files, class notes, and messages you upload or send remain yours. You're responsible for having the right to share anything you upload.
Ending your account
You can delete your account any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate an account for violating these terms.
Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The Lab is provided “as is.” We do our best to keep tutoring, quiz content, and the Lab Assistant accurate and helpful, but we don't guarantee any particular academic outcome. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tutor Labs Canada Inc.'s total liability for any claim arising from your use of The Lab is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose. We're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Nothing here limits liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited. [CONFIRM: this is draft boilerplate, not yet reviewed by a lawyer - please have this section checked before relying on it.]
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.
Changes to these terms
If we make a material change, we'll post the update here and update the date at the top of the page.
